Don’t play music live. Just play music. There just happens to be people present sometimes. Some of them give you money to encourage you to spend more time playing by reducing the time you need to spend earning a living in non-musical fields. They want more of you and figure that if they give you money, you won’t have to work day jobs and can come play for them more often. If you keep getting asked if you have CDs for sale, record albums. People will hear of you in other towns and get in touch with you to invite you to entertain their pub, or party or event or whatever. The same happens for drawing and writing or any other medium. Do it because you like doing it. If your craft brings enjoyment to others, you’ll get paid for it to encourage you to do more.
